Thankful Thursday

Today I'm thankful for Modern Medicine! After several rounds of antibiotics for sinus infections early this spring I took Riley to a Ear Nose & Throat specialist. As she put a probe with a camera at the end of it up his nose she informed me that there was no airway for him to breath through his nose and he needed to have his adenoids removed. I scheduled the surgery and then we took off for Lake Powell. While in Lake Powell I ended up sleeping...or rather TRYING to sleep next to Riley while he snored ALL NIGHT LONG! I had known that Riley snored at night, but I had no idea it had gotten that bad. I kept waking him up to see if he needed a drink of water because he was snoring. Finally he informed me that he had forgotten that he needed to sleep with his head all the way back to open up his airway all the way. I started to panic thinking that if something got caught in his throat he would die because there was no other way for him to breath. Poor Kid! He had never complained...in fact Richard was the only one to complain because as he put it,"you try sleeping across the hall from him every night!" As soon as we got home I moved the surgery up to the earliest possible time. I am so thankful for the many miracles of modern medicine. While I don't know if it would have ever killed Riley...I know now just how much of a blessing it is for him to be able to breath with his mouth shut!

After the surgery...not feeling good at all!

Oaklee is scheduled to have her tonsils and adnoids out early next month for sleep apnea, as well. It is scary to watch them sleep. Oaklee sits up to catch her breath. Way scary for a mom to watch her baby not breathe normally. The doctor said that she is probably small in stature because she can't grow because she has no or very little REM sleep and that is when they grow. Well, I hope he is feeling better. When Charlee had her's out, she bounced back in a couple of days. You will be checking on him for a while because you can't hear him snoring at all!! I guess the "Abnormally Large" tonsils come from the Barry side???

Eli said that coming out of surgery is the worst. Poor little guy. I hope he's feeling better now.
